[Class 80 (i)] A casing for a chain or belt drive is provided with inlet and outlet apertures for circulation of cooling air. The casing 16, Fig. 1, has an inlet aperture 14 formed in the top peripheral portion thereof and an outlet aperture 30, of greater area, at the other end. The inlet aperture, which is situated close to the chain and in the neighbourhood of the point at which the latter leaves the wheel 12, is constituted by the open end of a louvre-like extension 18 the top 20 of which is detachable and serves as a cover. The opening is provided with a removable filter pad 28, e.g. of glass wool. The outlet aperture 30, which may also be provided with a removable filter pad 32, is formed at the end of a chamber 36 formed by an extension 34 of the casing, an end wall 44 and a circular baffle 38. Perforated baffle plates are provided at 40, 42 and catch oil drops which are ultimately discharged through an aperture 46. A screen of fine wire gauze is provided at 43. In a modification, the upper rim of the chain recedes from the larger sprocket wheel instead of the smaller as in Fig. 1. In another modification, Fig. 4, the drive is vertical and the inlet and outlet apertures are on opposite sides of the line joining the centres of the sprockets instead of being on the same side as in Fig. 1. The inlet opening is next to the upwardly moving part of the chain but, in a modification, it may be next the downwardly moving part. Oil running down the inside of the casing is prevented by a V-shaped guard 48 from entering the filter pad 28.
