Abstract

533,654. Delivering measured quantities of powdered &c. material. JACKSON & CROCKATT. Ltd., J. G., and GAIR, D. Aug. 31, 1939, No. 24949. [Class 106 (v)] A closure element 5 carried by a rotating shaft 4 allows powdered or granular material in a container 1 to pass at intervals into a measuring chamber 3 from which it is discharged into a funnel 33, when a cam on the shaft 4 allows two shutters 8 beneath the measuring chamber to be opened by springs 10. The shutters 8 are connected by a link 9 so as to open or close simultaneously and one shutter is held by springs in engagement with a resiliently mounted plunger 12 on a lever 11 which also carries a roller 13 engaging the cam 14. A cam on the shaft 4 operates an arm to uncover an air inlet 3c in the measuring chamber during discharge. The plunger 12 is attached to the arm 11 by a pivoted block 12a which can be turned to allow the shutters to open for cleaning. The shutters carry rollers 15 engaging an adjustable inclined track 16 below the measuring chamber to wedge them into engagement with the lower part 3b of the measuring chamber. The lower part 3b is adjustable by a screw 18 on the frame of the apparatus to vary the capacity of the measuring chamber. The shaft 4 is rotated by a constant speed electric motor 20 through variable speed belt gearing 22 and worm reduction gear 21, the gear 21 being arranged in an annular oil trough 24. On removing a nut 25 securing the wormwheel the shaft 4 may be lifted out of the container 1. The material delivered from a hopper 2 into the container 1 may be regulated by a screw-and-nut mounting 26. A trip mechanism may be provided by which a lever 27 preventing the shutters 8 from opening by engagement with the block 12a is removed when a receptacle is placed below the funnel 33 by displacement of a feeler arm 28 on a spindle 29 carrying a hooker arm 31 engaging a rod 32 depending from the lever 27.
