[Class 83 (iv.)] Roller tables.-In a machine for straightening sections such as bars, beams, channels, rails, &c. of the kind comprising a pair of heads relatively movable on a bed and each provided with a die which may be lifted out of operative position and which co-operates with dies on the opposite head, each lifting die when raised assumes a position away from the vertical plane of its contracting face when lowered. The dies 20, 15, which respectively co-operate with dies 17, 17' and 21, 21', are lowered into operative position by air cylinders 16, 16' and are counterweighted so that they may be held in raised position. They are movable in grooves 22 which are inclined so as to afford a better view of the work during operation. The dies 20, 21, 21<SP>1</SP> are carried by a head 8 adjusted by motor driven screws 10, 10' through breaking pieces 14 and the dies 15, 17, 17' are carried by a head 7 operated by motor driven eccentrics 12, 12<SP>1</SP>. The dies 21, 21<SP>1</SP> and 17, 17<SP>1</SP> are adjustable towards and from the dies 20, 15 by motor driven right and left hand screws 18. The work is fed through the machine by rollers 23 each driven by a separate motor 36. In order that the straightening force when applied to the top and bottom of the rail may be through the middle of the work 31 at right angles to the plane of the flange 25<SP>1</SP>, the collars 23 may be mounted in bearings of which the bearing 27 is pivoted at 30 of the bearing 26 adjustable in guides 29 and mounted on shims 32 on a support 33 pivoted at 34 to the piston rods 35 of air cylinders, alternatively tapered rollers may be used or rollers with sliding collars 38. The rail, &c. may also be manipulated by an element 43 carried by a fluid operated piston rod 42.
