[Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a lubricating-arrangement for a pump or motor of the kind comprising a revolving cylinder-block universally connected to a driving-shaft, each piston is provided with a non-return valve controlling communication between the connecting-rod bearing-surfaces and a lubricating-chamber which is separate from the other lubricating-chambers, the arrangement being such that the bearing- surfaces are subject to less fluid-pressure on the suction-stroke than on the compressionstroke. The Figure shows a pump or motor comprising a shaft 5 universally connected to a block 7 containing pistons 10 each provided with a connecting-rod 11 having an axial passage 14, and balls 12, 13 which engage sockets 15, 22 in the driving-shaft end piston, The socket 15 is provided with a retaining- ring 16 and communicates through a passage 19 with a separate chamber 18. The socket 22 is providing with a retaining-ring 24 and communicates with a check-valve 27. During the discharge-stroke of any piston, the connecting- rod is in compression, the balls 12. 13 seat tightly on the surfaces 20, 23 and oil is compressed through the valve 27 into the chamber 18. During the suction-stroke of the piston, the connecting-rod is in tension, clearance forms at the surfaces 20, 23, the valve 27 closes, and the oil in the chamber expands and passes on to the surfaces. When the connecting-rod is again compressed, some of the oil on the surfaces 20, 23 absorbs shock, and excess liquid is forced on to the surfaces 21, 25.
