Abstract

532,282. Feeding webs. EDNELL, F. O. Aug. 24, 1939, No. 24365. [Class 100 (i)] The brake on the spindle of a web roll 3 is automatically adjusted to keep the web tension constant as the roll decreases in diameter, by means of a lever 14 on which is slidable by gravity towards the roll a carriage 22 provided with weights 24, the carriage having secured thereto an arm 25 having a roller 27 kept in contact with the roll. As shown; the brake comprises, a pair of blocks 5, 6 pivoted respectively at 7 and 8, the block 6 being connected by a link 17 to one end of the lever 14 and the block 5 being connected to the lever by an adjustable screw 10 the connection 13 forming the pivot of the lever. The.screw 10 is initially adjusted by its nut 11 so that the part of the lever on which the carriage 22 is mounted inclines downwardly toward the roll so that the roller 27 is kept in contact with the roll by gravity.
