Abstract

532,266. Making chains. ALLEY, S. E., and ALLEY, S. E. July 20, 1939. No. 21129. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In an endless track for a vehicle, rubber bushes 18 enclosed in metal sleeves 19 are preferably provided between the pins 11 and the link plates 12, 13. Each bush may be formed in one or more pieces, and each metal sleeve may be formed as a tube or be bent to shape from sheet metal. The bush and sleeve may be formed to shape as shown, a strip of rubber 25 being folded around the pin 11 and embraced by a U-shaped strip of sheet metal 26. When the rounded end portions 16 of the hinge plates 12, 13 are brought together to position shown in Fig. 9 the rubber strip is formed into a bush surrounded by the metal strip 26,.the latter having a gap 29 between its ends filled by rubber. The lower hinge plates 13 may be cast integral with the shoe plates 10, Fig. 1 (not shown).
