Abstract

532,033. Electromagnetic switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 12, 1939, No. 23308. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVI] Electromagnetic windings are provided with magnetic cores which comprise elements forming a static contact rectifier. For example a structural core comprising layers of iron and selenium, or iron, selenium and nickel, or tellurium, or iron and iron-oxide may be used, the rectifier being connected either in series with the operating coil or in a separate circuit (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). Such a structure may form the armature 33, Fig. 4, of a relay and may serve as a rectifier in series with the operating coil 37. In Fig. 5, the rectifying core structure 42 is connected across a coil 45 which operates to retard the action of a relay on either closing or opening of a switch 48 in the circuit of the operating winding 46.
