Abstract
531,648. Spare-wheel holders. CROSSLEY MOTORS, Ltd., and WISHART, T. D. July 28, 1939, No. 21941. [Class 136 (i)] In means for mounting a heavy spare wheel on a vehicle so that it can be readily removed, the spare wheel b is bolted to a carrier a which is slidable along a pair of runways h upon the upper, side of the chassis e and is secured in position by a releasablede device f, the carrier a being provided with a pair of rollers g engaging the runways h, which are also provided near the outer end with a pair of stationary rollers j upon which the carrier a bears. The carrier a consists of a strip-metal framework having a hand-grip c, laterally-projecting parts of which are engaged, by pivoted retaining members d carried by the chassis and adapted to be clamped in position by wing-nuts on pivoted bolts f. As the carrier a is drawn over the stationary rollers j by the hand-grip c, it tilts downwards about the axis of the rollers g, which in the fully lowered position of the wheel are stopped by closed or upturned ends i of the runways h.
