Abstract

Apparatus for carrying a spare wheel in a substantially horizontal transport position beneath a heavy goods vehicle and for raising and lowering the wheel to and from the transport position, the apparatus including a wheel carrier supported on guide means 4 secured to the vehicle and a drive, such as a worm drive 8, which causes the carrier and wheel to be displaced laterally of the vehicle along the guide means and then to pivot downwards until the wheel is substantially upright. Reverse operation of the drive causes the carrier and whell to pivot upwards and then to be displaced back again to the transport position. <IMAGE>
