[Class 86] [Also in Group XIII] Material to be chilled or frozen is delivered from a hopper 36 through a pipe 40 to the top of a cylindrical freezer chamber 19 and is spread on the cold surface by the uppermost blade 28a of a set of radial blades 28, Fig. 3, which are spaced vertically on a motor-driven stirrer shaft 24 and at angles of 120 degrees apart or displaced to provide spirally arranged ends which are clear of the cylindrical surface. The top blade is fitted with a plate or lug 32 to direct the material downwards and the leading edges of the blades are bevelled to give a down- ,ward thrust on the material, which is scraped from the surfaces, beaten and thrown back on another part of the surface and finally delivered to a cup 21 carried on an arm 71. The feed hopper may be adjustably rotated over a fixed disc 44, Fig. 7, having apertures of different sizes adapted to register with the spout 46 of the hopper. An alternative form of blade, Fig. 5, has a block 33 with an inclined groove 34 on its outer face. A comb-like set of blades 28c, Fig. 9, may be set in a vertical or spiral keyway in a rotor 26a secured to the lower end of the motorshaft 24. The motor shaft may be turned by a hand-wheel 58, Fig. 1, to free the blades when frozen in, or an auxiliary motor (Fig. 11, rot shown) may be connected to drive the main motor shaft through a spring friction clutch which yields when the main motor is in operation.
