530,366. Valve gear. HOLMES, D. C., and GRIFFITHS, A. H. Sept. 25, 1939, No. 26579. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1938. [Class 7 (vi)] A self - adjusting tappet comprises a main portion 17 in which is mounted a member 20 threaded at 26 to engage a threaded sleeve 28, these threaded members being connected by a spring 30 which tends to elongate the tappet. In the upper end of the sleeve 28 slides an abutment member 41 having a conical face giving line contact with a contact member 50, which fits over the whole and is sprung at its ends 53 into slots 24 in a washer 21. Spring discs 45 are inserted under the member 41. One end of the spring 30 engages in a slot 34 in the member 20, and the other end in a slot 35 formed in a pin 31, fixed at its upper end to the sleeve 28 by a pin 32 retained by a split ring 38. The member 50 has a central boss 51 engaging a bore in the member 41. Specifications 399,805, [Group XXIV], and 443,401 are referred to.
