Abstract

529,478. Electrically released switches. w i t c h e s. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 1, 1939, No. 16164. Convention date, June 1, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] A movable contact 11 is normally held in engagement with a fixed contact 10 by means of a toggle 20, 21 against the action of a spring 22, the toggle being tripped by a lever 18, pivoted at 19, when an explosive charge 15 is fired by a remotely-controlled heating coil 16, the pressure set up driving a piston 14 downwards. Contacts 10, 11 are respectively connected to contact-plates 8, 9 (to the latter over spring band 12) in series with which are fusible conductors 4, 5 connected to terminals 6, 7. One fuse may however be replaced by a conductor, or the contact-device may be arranged in the compartment, the other containing one or two fuses. Arc-rupturing devices. The contacts may be shunted by a weak fuse cartridge so as finally to rupture the circuit, this fuse being at length isolated by a subsidiary contact carried on the main contact, Fig. 3 (not shown).
