Abstract

1,216,977. Contact assemblies; switchgear Structures. KAFAK AB. 28 Feb., 1969 [20 March, 1968], No. 10819/69. Heading H1N. A contact assembly for a circuit breaker, particularly one mounted in a switchgear cubicle, comprises a pair of fixed contacts 34, 28<SP>1</SP>; a pair of movable contacts 24<SP>1</SP>, 26<SP>1</SP> spring-urged into engagement with the fixed contacts and opened against the spring force by a cam 40<SP>1</SP> located between the movable contacts, the biasing springs 20, 22 being arranged so as to maintain one end of each movable contact in engagement with one fixed contact 34. The contact 34 forms one terminal of a removable fuse 30; a second contact assembly is associated with the other terminal 32 and serves as an isolating switch, being interlocked (Fig. 2, not shown), to open after the first assembly. An arc chute 36 is arranged about the other fixed contact 28<SP>1</SP>. The movable contact sets and the fuse 30 are mounted on a fire-resistant, insulating, non- magnetic base-plate 10 slidable in a casing 14 of the switchgear cubicle. The fixed contacts 28, 28<SP>1</SP> extending from the casing 14 are attached to cables and bus-bars of the switchgear. The fuse may be replaced by a link 30<SP>1</SP>.
