Abstract

528,943. Lamp-holders. VICKERS TRAIN LIGHTING CO., Ltd., and MASON, G. R. May 17, 1939, No. 14782. [Class 38 (i)] A lamp 5 is locked in a bayonet type holder 4 comprising a moulded bracket or ceiling plate and a cover therefor by means of an abutment formed on one of the parts that lies adjacent the end of the lamp cap held in the other part and prevents the inward movement necessary 'to release the lamp until the parts are partially separated, involving the use of a special tool. In the form shown in Fig. 1. the abutment is a rib 21 lying between the contacts 17 and formed on a cover 2 secured to the fitting 4 by screws 3 having heads that require a special tool for removal. The cover 2 also encloses the heads of screws by which the shade 8 is secured and the shade covers the screws 14 by which the fitting 4 is secured to the wall or support. In the modification shown in Fig. 6 the abutment rib 27 is formed on a ceiling plate 23 and the lamp socket 4 is formed in a cover 22 secured by special headed screws 25. While the screws are slack the lamp can be inserted in the socket, but is held close to the rib 27 when the screws are tight. The contacts 17, 29 are made of strip metal with a backing leaf preferably sweated together at the fixed end and either straight or curved according to the location of the terminals. A switch 16 may be fitted in such a position that access to its interior is possible only when the fitting 4 is detached from the wall &c.
