Abstract

528,010. Relief valves. PEEBLES, W. C., and PEEBLES & CO., Ltd. April 26, 1939, No. 12487. [Class 135] A relief valve particularly adapted for use on high pressure gas mains has a lift valve member actuated by two differential diaphragms 12, 13, the small diaphragm serving to balance the valve member while the space between the diaphragms is subject to inlet pressure, the outer surface of the larger diaphragm being subject to atmospheric pressure admitted through a bleed hole 16. The valve member has a leather facing adapted to co-operate with a knife-edge seating shaped to encourage tarry deposits to drip away from the valve seat. The valve is loaded by a weighted lever 17 and the spindle has a guide tail sliding in a spider 11 secured in the inlet. An initial quantity or a small flow of clean gas is admitted through a pipe 24 to prevent tar vapour entering the spacers below the valve and between the diaphragms.
