Abstract
527,329. Vehicle axle bearings. DELCO-REMY & HYATT, Ltd., and CREWE, W. A. April 6,1939, No. 10768. [Class 12 (i)] A railway axle or like journal a is mounted on roller bearings c in a housing b which is provided at its outer end with inturned flanges j forming abutments for the ends of a thrustplate k resisting the axial pressure of the end face of the journal. The flanged end of the housing is formed with an elongated aperture to allow the insertion of the plate k which is then turned through a right angle to the position in which it is to be secured. The plate k is held in position by bolts l having extensions beyond their hexagonal heads to receive nuts n for securing an end cover m which locks the bolts l. The roller races are retained between a ring r in the housing and an annular plate g secured by bolts h. A lubricating wick extends upwards from the bottom of the housing through a slot in the ring r to a recess in the plate k. Shims p for taking up the wear on the plate k are mounted till required on studs g on the outer surface of the plate.
