Abstract

527,267. Mechanical toys with remote control. MARX & CO., Ltd., L. (Marx & Co., Inc., L.). April 5, 1939, No. 10666. [Class 132 (iii)] A self-propelled wheeled toy comprises steering means, means such as a spring normally lightly biassing the steering means in one direction, a string extending from the toy, said string being operatively connected to said steering means in such manner that tension applied to the string turns the steering means against the action of its bias. In Fig. 5, the front wheel S of a toy dog is mounted on a spindle 90 which is rotatable by gear and worm 96 on a shaft 98 carrying a drum 100 from which may be unwound against the action of spring 102, string which has a limiting bead 117 and a limiting mark 119 and the end of which is held by the operator. The head is attached to the top of the spindle 90 for turning with the front wheel, and the tail 120 may be operated from the spring motor by a cam 126 and follower 124. A toy car with stub axles and tie rod may be similarly operated or the steering may be fixed by attaching the string to a cleat on the body, a pointed bobbin carrying the remainder of the string being plugged into a suitable hole in the running-board. In Fig. 7, the control string is attached to a rod 156 simulating a radio aerial, movement being transmitted through rod 154 against the action of spring 162 to the front wheels.
