Abstract

527,056. Decorticating ramie, hemp &c. FRISCHE, K. March 30, 1939, No. 9943. Convention date, Jan. 27. [Class 120 (i)] In decorticating ramie, hemp and like fibre-bearing stalks, the stalks 1 are fed in an inclined position, e.g. at 45 degrees, by rollers 2, 21 against a splitting-knife 3, the split halves being then crushed between rollers 2, 4, 21, 41 and bent round rollers 6, 61 where the woody matter is stripped by rotary peeling- cutters 8, 8<SP>1</SP>. The width of the various parts of the machine is such that the stalks may be guided in inclined disposition throughout their contact with every part of the width of the various cutting and crushing devices, i.e. the stalks are maintained in the inclined position throughout. This may be effected by providing narrower feed and conveyer belts 5a, 5, 5<SP>1</SP>a, 51 to grip the root ends of the stalks. In front of the feed table 11 a worm 9a with a co-operating bar 10, Fig. 3, may be provided so that stalks fed on top of one another shall be separated and fed in an inclined position to the splitting-knife.
