Abstract
525,545. Ships' derricks. MACFARLANE, L. K., (Representative of MACFARLANE, G. T.). Nov. 22, 1938, No. 33943. [Class 78 (iv)] The load rope 6 passes over a speciallymounted pulley 8 at the boom head, over a pulley 10 on the mast and then down to a winding-drum 11. By engaging the hook 7 to the eye 14, the hoisting rope can be used to luff the boom, which is then secured in position by winding the rope 4 round the cleat 5. To mount the pulley 8, a bifurcated bracket 18, Fig. 2, is formed with an integral socket 16 fitting over the end of the boom. The pulley 8 is carried by a bracket 19 which can move in the plane of the boom about the trunnions 20 and also move perpendicularly to this direction about the bearings 37. 41. The rear end of the bracket 19 is guided slidably between the bifurcations of the bracket 18, and carries a thimble guide 42 for the rope, and in some cases also a pair of rope-guiding pulleys 47. Wearing-pieces 22 are fitted to the bracket 18 so that they can be replaced as necessary. The securing rope 4 is attached to the bracket 18 which may also carry lugs for attachment of guy ropes. In a modified construction the pulley 8 is carried by a bracket fitted with a U-shaped swivelling hook engaging a second U-shaped hook fixed to the outer end of the bracket 18.
