Abstract

525,215. Cold skew-rolling. STEVENS, A. H. (Schaefer, F.). Feb. 16, 1939, No. 5133. [Class 83 (iv)] Round bars &c. are sized and straightened in a skew rolling mill, the first pair of rolls 4, 23 having cylindrical surfaces (and may also have one or two guiding shoulders 231) which give point contact for sizing the work, followed by other roll pairs 6, 25 and 5, 24, at least one pair of which is concave to increase the contact. The third pair 5, 24 is still more concave to smooth the bar. One roll of each pair is adjustable by wedge and handscrews 21 to adjust the pass, the middle pair of rolls being also both adjustable to adjust the pass height for straightening. The middle rolls are driven, the other pairs having a driving motor 14 coupled by gears and rollers to the lower outer rolls 4 and 5 and another motor 59 for the top outer rolls 23 and 24. All the top rolls are mounted in a frame 3 hinged at 65 to allow access to the inside. U.S.A. Specification 1,979,133 is.referred to.
