Abstract
524,864. Controlling aircraft. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., ARCHDALE, G. E., and BROWSE, C. W. E. Jan. 26, 1939, No. 2734. [Class 4] In a folding wing aircraft structure having mechanism for transmitting control movements across the folding joint when the wings are fully spread but which does not interfere with the swinging of the parts when the wings are being folded, the rod or cable 11 operated from the cockpit is connected to a swinging element 13 pivoted on a bracket 15 on the fixed part 3 of the aircraft and having a pin-and-slot connection 21, 22 with a swinging element 16 pivoted on a bracket 18 on the span 4 of the folding wing and connected to the rod 20 for controlling an aileron, wing flaps, or for operating a control of an engine mounted on the folding wing. In the position shown, the wing is folded, the pin 21 of the centralized control being approximately co-axial with the hinge pivots 5, 6, and the parts 16, 20 being locked. When the wing is extended, the lever 16 is above and parallel to the lever 13, the pivots 12, 19 being co-axial.
