Abstract

1,088,231. Vertical take-off aircraft. NORD-AVIATION SOCIETE NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. Jan. 6, 1965 [Jan. 9, 1964; June 12, 1964], No. 650/65. Headings B7G and B7W. A vertical take-off aircraft has two propulsion units pivotally mounted on a common transverse axis passing over the centre of gravity, and a hinged flap in the efflux from each unit so arranged that each unit is pivoted by movement of the corresponding flap. The aircraft shown has gas turbine engines 10 driving variable pitch ducted fans 14 mounted on a wing 4 with a swept forward trailing edge joined to the fin 9. The flaps d 1 , d 2 are connected by linkages including a lever arm (e 1 , Fig. 9, not shown) pivoted on the fan duct, and arms (e 2 , e 3 ) pivoted on the wing, to a rod (t 4 ) connected to the pilot's control. The linkage is arranged so that the pivoting of the fan consequent on movement of the flaps (e.g. to the broken line position in Fig. 9), returns the flaps to the zero incidence position relative to the fan axis.
