Abstract

524,822. Sight-testing: spectacles. BARRETT, C. D., and LONDON OPTICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 8, 1939, No. 4136. [Class 97 (i)] Subnormal visual acuity and other abnormal vision is tested by means of a trial frame housing in its front cell 4 a rear flange 8 on a cylinder 7 carrying the positive lens 9 of a galilean telescope, and, in its rear cell 6 a negative lens 10 interchangeable with others for the purpose of test; a diaphragm forming one of a series having apertures of various sizes and shapes may be housed in the middle cell 5 or held close to the lens 10. A monocular may be built up with lenses of power and spacing in accordance with the test result, and may comprise a cylindrical body 11 having a flange 14 capable of being fitted in the eye-rim of a spectacle frame, a positive lens 9a, a negative lens 10a, and, if desired, an aperture plate 15 : the lens 10a and plate 15 may be held against one or more shoulders in the body by a ring 13 screwed in place. Cylindrical correction may be determined, and applied to the lens 10a. The body may be extensible, and the spectacle frame may be fitted with one or two of the monoculars.
