[Class 38 (iii)] The starting motor a of an internal combustion engine is started by closing switch whereby an electromagnetic switch is operated to close contacts d and connect the motor to a battery c with its main field b energized. To stop the motor the switch i is opened, the electromagnetic switch closes contacts g, and the motor is connected in a closed loop with a reversely wound field winding f, the field b being disconnected.
