Abstract
524,355. Motor propulsion for bicycles. FICHTEL & SACHS AKT.-GES. Jan. 28, 1939, No. 2975. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1938. [Class 79 (iii)] An auxiliary motor driving-unit for bicycles, mounted on a projection co-axial with the rear wheel axle and with a resilient intermediate member between the motor casing and cycle frame for taking up vibrations, reactions &c., is so positioned that the centre of gravity of the unit falls in or near the vertical plane passing through the wheel axis. The unit, comprising the motor, preferably with an inclined cylinder 9, carburettor 12, magneto 13 and exhaust pipe 14, is oscillatably mounted on a projection 10 forming an extension of the wheel axle, a rubber or like resilient bushing 11 being interposed. The drive is transmitted through gear wheels 7, 8. A speed gear and/or clutch may be inserted in the transmission. The centre of gravity S of the unit may be above or, as shown, below the wheel axis, lying approximately in the vertical plane E passing therethrough.
