Abstract

The single-wheel vehicle is driven by pedals or an engine and may be used for travelling on land or water. A frame is mounted in the centre of a large wheel, and houses a saddle for the rider. There can be a wheel on the frame, transmitting the movement of the pedals via a chain, and working in a groove in the large wheel which it drives by friction or gear teeth. The large wheel can have an external groove to accommodate a solid or pneumatic tyre, and steering can be by ailerons actuated by the driver by means of handlebars.
