Abstract

524,323. Tin-openers. POWER, R. F. Jan. 27, 1939, No. 2826. [Class 66] An opener for sardine &c. tins, adapted to cut out the top of the tin close to the edge, comprises a handle member 1, Fig. 2, notched at 2 to engage over the seamed edge of the tin with the edge 5 serving as a fulcrum, and having a blade portion 3 disposed perpendicular thereto, the cutting edge 3e of the blade being disposed about midway of the opening of the notch. A stamped-out lug 12 may be provided to limit the downward movement of the opener in use. The blanks to form the openers can be stamped with little waste from a metal strip, and the shape of the opener enables it to be readily attached to a tin as shown in Fig. 3, the tongue 7 gripping the inner face of the seam at the corner. A modified form adapted for' packing with cylindrical fruit &c. tins, and further modifications, one feature of which is the provision of the fulcrum 5 on an outwardly directed portion at the lower end of the opener, are described.
