[Classes 16 and 146 (i)] In a filing device of the type in which file wrappers are hung from cross members supported by rails in a cabinet the file c, Figs. 3, 4, is folded at c<SP>2</SP>, c' forming a horizontal portion c<SP>1</SP> by which it hangs from a wire cross member a, and a flap c<SP>20</SP> under which the front portion c<SP>21</SP> is folded to close the file. Cross member a may be formed with a flange a<SP>1</SP> to prevent file c from swinging. The flap c<SP>20</SP> may be folded inwards under the cross member and secured by staples or stitching to the back. In a modification, Fig. 6, the cross member a carries projections a<SP>2</SP> which engage slots in the back of the file. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the crossmember a is in the form of a wire, the file being folded at c<SP>22</SP> to form a pocket c<SP>7</SP> above wire a and a flap c<SP>11</SP> below. The file c, Fig. 9, is secured to member a by staples c<SP>8</SP>, c'‹ to form a. pocket c<SP>7</SP> above the wire a and a flap below. Pocket c<SP>7</SP> may extend across the top of the file or may be cut away as shown to form index tabs. The face of the tab may be cut away to form a window for an index mounted behind a celluloid strip. In a modification, Fig. 12, the index is a metal tab a' secured to the wire a and projecting through slot c<SP>13</SP> in the file fold. The tab may be placed nearer to one end of the wire and the file provided with two alternative slots c<SP>13</SP> for the location of the tab as in Figs. 14, 15 (not shown).
