Abstract

523,781. Knitting-machines. CARTER & CO., Ltd., B. & F., CARTER, B., and CARTER, E. Dec. 16, 1938, No. 36639. [Class 74 (ii)] A machine for providing an electric conductor or like flexible body with two or more knitted sheaths comprises a number of co-axial knitting heads A, B of which heads one rotates in opposite direction to the others. Alternatively, one only of the knitting heads may rotate. As described in connection with a machine having two knitting heads, the two heads are driven from a common shaft 10, one head A being driven directly from the shaft 10 by gearing 8, 11. The other head B being driven through an intermediate gear 12. In each head, a stationary knitting cam system 9 is provided together with a stationary yarn holder 16. The length of the loop is adjusted by varying the height of the cams 9.
