Abstract

523,294. Azo dyes. ELLIS, G. H., OLPIN, H. C., and WRIGHT, J. Dec. 31, 1938, Nos. 31558/39, (divided out of 523,287) and 31660/39, (divided out of 529,454). [Class 2 (iii)] Aminoazo compounds are obtained by coupling diazotized 2-, 3- or 4- nitraniline with an unsulphonated primary amine of the benzene series coupling in p-position to the primary amino group and containing an acidylamino group in m-position to the primary amino group and an alkyloxy group in p-position to the acidylamino group. Specified coupling components are the 2-amino-4-acetylaminoderivatives of anisole, phenetole and #-hydroxyethoxybenzene, 2-amino-4-benzoylaminoanisole and 2-amino-4-acetylmethylaminoanisole. The nitroaminoazo products and the diaminoazo products obtainable therefrom by reduction of the nitro group are suitable for the preparation of dis- and tris-azo dyes by the processes described in Specifications 523,287 and 529,454. An example relates to the preparation of the dyestuff, 4-nitraniline# 2-amino-4-acetylaminoanisole. Specifications 214,516 and 245,790, [both in Class 2 (iii)], also are referred to. 2- Amino-4-acetylaminophenetole is obtained by reducing the nitro group in the product of nitration of 4-acetylaminophenetole. 2- Amino-4-benzoylaminoanisole is obtained by reducing the nitro group in the product of benzoylation of 2-nitro-4-aminanisole. 2- Amino-4-acetylmethylaminoanisole is obtained by reducing the corresponding 2-nitrocompound.
