Abstract

522,533. Cathode-ray tubes. KOLSTERBRANDES, Ltd., and SMYTH, C. N. Dec. 13, 1938, No. 36325. [Class 39 (i)] In a cathode ray tube of the kind comprising a cathode, a modulating electrode, an accelerating electrode, a focusing structure and a fluorescent screen all co-axially arranged with respect to a tubular or conical envelope, the envelope includes a lateral tubular projection or extension at the cathode end thereof and the cathode and the modulating electrode are supported upon a stem in said tubular portion. The electron gun consisting of a thermionic cathode C, heater H and modulating electrode G is supported axially in the main envelope from a pinch P in a lateral projection or extension Q. The end wall, or a separate screen has a fluorescent coating S. The focusing and deflecting controls may be magnetic as shown, or electrostatic. The accelerating electrode in the form of a conical frustum A may be connected at A<SP>1</SP> to the metallic coating on the envelope portion K.
