Abstract

522,529. Hospital stretchers &c. BILLING, N. P. Dec. 12, 1938, Nos. 36213/38, 4726/39 and 12652/39. [Class 108 (i)] One side 21 of a stretcher is adapted tc be collapsed against a side 20 by releasing a catch 28 on the trans. verse members 25 and sliding the side along the transverse members until it passes beyond a rule joint 26 after which the transverse members are hinged into the position shown in dotted line. The stretcher covering may be of tubular construction 70 of paper &c. which is stretched in position when the stretcher frame is expanded. The covering may be slit along the sides to lower the patient on to a table and the frame thereafter removed. The blocks 27 through which the members 25 slide may be provided with feet 23, Fig. 4, and the upper side may be provided with a socket 37 to receive a bar 36 for spacing one stretcher above another, the bar when not in use being stored in the ends of the hollow side bars. Handles 30 may be telescopic or may be hinged on the feet 23 and adapted to be turned under the side bars when not in use. In Figs. 6, 7, a carrier is formed by. pairs of channels 40, 41 spaced apart by transverse end members 25 with rule joints 26, one side sliding on the bars 25 into the collapsed position shown in dotted line. The upper and lower channels are connected by struts 43 which terminate in a wheel 45 and by vertical end channels 42 provided with sliding rods, one pair carrying wheels 48 and the other pair carrying spring plungers 49. The bars are secured in position by pegs 51 which turn into notches in the channel and by cramps 53. A covering over the stretchers may comprise a fabric over a collapsable frame.
