[Class 52 (iv)] Upholstered furniture comprises in combination a framework, a base support carried by the framework, a spring assembly consisting of parallel rows of helical springs connected together independently of the framework or base support, the spring assembly resting on the base support and upholstery stuffing and covering laid over the springs secured to the framework. As shown the seat frame comprises a base frame 1, rear and front uprights 4, 7 bottom and top side 'rails 2, 8 and side, rear, and front stuffing rails 10, 16, 9. The back frame comprises curved uprights 15 secured to the upright 4, top rail 17, side rails 23, a batten 19 secured to the underside of the rails 10 and spring base-supporting battens 21 secured as shown. The seat springing 13 comprises parallel rows of helical springs suitably secured together and laid in the box-like space upon a plywood sheet 12 supported on the base frame. The back springing 24 is a similar arrangement of springs laid in the box-like space defined by the batten 19, battens 21 and side rails 23. The back canvas and stuffing 25, 26 is secured at one end to the rail 17, passed over the springing 24 and secured at its other end to the batten 19, the side edges being secured to the rails 23. The seating canvas and stuffing 25, 26 is secured to the stuffing rail 9 passed over the springs, under the batten 19 and secured to the rail 16, the side edges being passed down alongside the rails 10 but not secured thereto. The upholstery covering may then be secured in place.
