An upholstered armchair has a framework 1 forming the back and seat element mounted between arm rests 2, 3, the framework 1 consisting of side members 4, 5 each formed by two trapezoidal parts 6, 7 with a U-section connected to each other by welds 8 and cross-members 10 ... 13. The arm-rests are each made of U-section parts with end-plates 22, 23 and are connected to the chair framework by bolts. Struck-out lugs on side-members 4, 5 secure the ends of sinuous springs 19 kept apart by pins 19a and foam latex cushions 44, 45 have canvas 46 glued beneath while the top of the cushions is covered with fabric 47 retained by clips 48. Fabric covers the arm-rests which have resilient pads. Legs 34, 35 fit into supports 32, 33 mounted inside each arm-rest.
