Abstract

522,024. Oil scraping rings. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D., TRYON, H. C., and HALL. L. F. Dec. 2, 1938, No. 35111. [Class 122 (i)] An oil scraper ring disposed between two relatively movable concentric cylindrical members, such as a cylinder A and a sleeve valve E of an internal-combustion engine, comprises a metal ring D bonded to a rubber ring C. The rubber ring C is held in an annular groove B in one of the members and is compressedto press the metal ring against the surface of the other member E. As shown the ring C is compressedby a ring G screwed to the cylinder A, a flat ring F being interposed: Alternatively a spring may be fitted between the ring C and the bottom C<1> of the groove B. The sides of the groove B may be conical, the ring F being substituted by a spring ring. The ring D which is split may be grooved on both faces or may be replaced by a number of separate rings.
