520,715. Pipe joints. SOC. ANON. LOCOMOTIVE A VAPORE FRANCO. Nov. 10, 1938, No. 32753. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1937. [Class 99(i)] In a ball-and-socket joint the pipe 1 has concentric ball members 3, 4 of which the outer engages spherical surfaces on 5, 6 which are spaced apart to form a lubricating cavity 16. The inner ball engages a cylindrical socket 10 or a resiliently-mounted part-spherical socket. The ring 5 is bolted to the box 7 and the ring 6 is held up by spring 9. The box forms a space which receives leakage fluid from the pipes and is connected by a duct 15 to the space 16. Lubricant is supplied through a valve 19 to the reservoir 18, and leakage fluid is drawn off through the valve 23.
