Abstract

520,592. Coating metals. BERGHAUS, B. Oct. 26. 1938, Nos. 30939 and 30940. Convention dates, Nov. 19, 1937. and Aug. 20, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] Metal-coated ,articles are heated before, during or after the deposition so that the base portion of the coating unites by diffusion or alloying with the article coated. The heating may be by glow discharge or ionic bombardment in the coating chamber or the heating may be carried out in a separate furnace. Several heatings may be separated by cooling periods. For articles of iron, steel, copper, brass, aluminium or aluminium alloys, magnesium or magnesium alloys coating may be made with iron, cobalt, nickel, manganese, copper, silver, gold, cadmium, zinc, metals of chromium group, antimony, bismuth, aluminium, lithium beryllium, magnesium, or alloys of any of these metals. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the coating may be effected by vapourization with heat treatment as described above. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
