Abstract
520,071. Forced-flow steam boilers. LA MONT, W. D. July 7, 1938, No. 18997/39. Divided out of 517,323. [Class 123 (ii)] The coiled tubes of a forced-flow boiler are wound through apertures in radial supporting plates 2 attached to supporting bars 12 by links 4, 7. The apertures 28 in the edges of the plates receive the water wall steam generating tubes, the next row of apertures receive radiant superseater tubes and the remaining rows receive the feed heating and steam generating tubes. The tube ends are secured in upper and lower extensions of the supporting plates which extensions are inclined to allow the tubes to be introduced spirally. The tubes are connected in pairs to connections communicating with a steam and water drum B as described in Specification 517,323. The top wall of the combustion chamber is protected by water tube coils 15 connected to the circulation water supply header 145 by tubes 15 arranged vertically in front of the supporting plates. The gases pass from the combustion chamber over a baffle 35 and then downwards through the passage containing the tubes between the baffle and a wall 45. They then flow upwards through an air heater 46 to the outlet 11. The outer casing is attached to the radial plates. Air for combustion admitted through an opening 55 in the casing is directed partly to the heater 46 and partly to chambers 323, 332 serving to cool the top of the combustion chamber. The heated air is conducted from the chambers to the burner chamber by a pipe 338.
