Abstract
519,497. Index hands and pointers. PRIESTMAN BROS., Ltd., and OLIVER, G. B. Nov. 4, 1938, No. 32047. [Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXI and XXX] In a grab dredger &c. in which the grab is controlled by a hoisting or closing rope and an opening rope wound on separate drums, an indicator is positively geared to the two drums so as to show, when the drum is below water &c. whether the grab is open or closed. As shown, the opening and closing drums 10, 12, are connected through similar spur gearings 14, 18 and 16, 20, .flexible shafts 22, 32 and worm gearings 24, 26 and 34, 36 to separate pointers 30, 40 moving over a dial; the pointers are frictionally mounted for adjustment. The dial is preferably so graduated that one pointer also indicates the depth of the grab below water. In another form, a single pointer is connected to the planet carrier of a differential gear the sun pinions of which are geared to the two drums.
