Abstract

517,402. Display cartons or boxes SHIRLEY & CO. Ltd., R. L., SHIRLEY, F. J., and SEARLES; C. E. July 26, 1938, No. 22256. [Class 18] A display box or carton of sheet material such as cardboard, strawboard or sheet metal, capable of assuming the two configurations shown in Figs, 1 and 2, is made from two blanks 22, 24, Figs. 4 and 5, by folding blank 22 about lines 94, 48, 50 and securing laps 90, 92 to laps 52, 58 and laps 86, 88 to laps 54, 60, the front 26 forming, such an angle with the base 28 that edges 76, 78 are horizontal, side flaps 22, 36 and, 34, 38 lying within flaps 42, 44, as in Fig. 1, flap 82 serving as a display flap. The container is caused to assume the configuration of Fig. 2 by rotating the front 26 and the outer side panels 44 with reference to the base 28 and inner side panels about line 94 and thereafter folding inwards the triangular panels shown at the top. A third panel with tongues to engage in the front and in slit 40 serves as a closure as in Fig. 3. In another form the blanks shown in Figs. 11 and 12 are assembled by stapling the side wings of 'the front 116 to flaps 144, 146, a partition. Fig. 13, engaging at 182, 184 and 174, 160, while a fourth panel covers front top and back. In another form the partition, Fig. 13, is stepped as shown in Fig. 15 at 228 to form a horizontal support for mechandise.
