Abstract

517,204. Moulding hollow-ware. ARCARI, S., and ARCARI, S. July 22, 1938, No. 21850. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] In moulding from ceramic material liquid containers, such as jugs, teapots or coffee pots, with a pouring lip having a longitudinal groove, that portion 8 of a mould near to and supporting a templet 9 which forms the groove is superficially or bodily of a non-absorbent character whereby ceramic material does not remain on the supporting portion. The mould may comprise a base 1, complementary body parts 2 and a lid 4. The portion 8 is formed by a conical-shaped projection depending from the lid and wherein the templet 9 is embedded. The templet may be of brass, aluminium, or the material known under the registered trade mark "Bakelite." The portion 8 may be of plaster as the rest of the mould or may be of the same material as the templet. The templet may be provided with holes or be of irregular contour to assists its anchorage in the portion 8. The edge 10 of the templet projects from its support to define the groove in the lip and is thus shaped to correspond with a lip-forming rib 6x and groove 6 in the mould. The width of the templet and thus of the groove may increase as it approaches the tip of the lip and may be uniform or taper towards its inward point lOx. The depth of the groove may be a maximum at the crest of the tip. The side walls of the groove may be vertical or inclined and undercut. 'Before glazing, the grooved lip or spout may be dipped in or brushed with water to prevent retention of too much glazing composition in the groove.
