Abstract

516,682. Adjustable seats. CHAPMAN, A. W. July 4, 1938, No. 19760. [Class 52 (ii)] A vehicle seat adjustable for inclination comprises a frame 22 pivoted about a transverse axis 21A at or near the front of.the frame to a foundation structure 21, and, at the rear, support means comprising a plurality of pivotally interconnected parts, such as links 25, 26; angularly adjustable relatively to one another to vary the tilt of the seat. means being provided to maintain the selected setting. The links 25 pivoted to the frame 22 at each side may for example be rigidly secured to a transverse tube to the centre of which a lever 24 is rigidly attached, screw mechanism 24B, 24C connecting the lever 24 to the front of the frame. The links 26 are pivoted to the foundation frame 21 and secured to a transverse rod passing through the tube. carrying the links 25. The links 26 may have slots at the lower ends engaging pins on the frame 21 so that the seat frame can be swung forwardly about the axis 21A. Instead of the screw adjusting means, the links 25, 26 may be retained in adjusted position by frictional means, or by a spring pressed pin 92, Fig. 5. The frame 21, Fig. 1, may be mounted to slide in guides 21B.
