Abstract

516,366. Spray producers. RICHARD, C. C. June 22, 1938, No. 18590. [Class 69 (iii)] In apparatus for washing tank interiors one or more jets turn about a horizontal axis as the jet is rotated on a vertical axis giving the jet a spiral path from top to bottom of the tank. The ratio of the movements is such as to cause the turns of the jet path to overlap and on the return movement towards the top of the tank the jet is cut off or the movement executed by quick-return mechanism. In the former case two oppositely directed jets are used and the rotary motions are derived from a turbine operated by the washing fluid and in the latter case the jets J move in unison and at the bottom of their downward path operate valve mechanism controlling an auxiliary turbine which performs the quick return operation. The device is vertically adjustable in a fixture 381 which can be clamped on a manhole in the tank.
