[Class 59] [Also in Group XIII] A rotary drum mounted to rotate about a fixed axis is arranged so that substantially the whole weight is taken by a single support beneath the centre of gravity of the drum or at a point displaced axially from the centre of gravity by a distance not exceeding 10 per cent. of the length of the drum, and tilting around this support is prevented by one or more subsidiary supports. As shown the drum 1 is supported by a ring bearing 9 on sliding shoes 4 as described in Specification 295,166, [Class 59], displaced to a slight extent from the centre of gravity of the drum. A bearing 8 at the closed end supports a part of the weight and prevents tilting of the drum and the bearing shaft 6 is extended to carry a driving flange 7. Openings 5 are provided in the closed end for the admission of air or material. A bearing 8 may be provided at each end of the drum in which case the bearing 4 is disposed under the centre of gravity of the drum. The end 2 may be an open trunnion supported in a bearing.
