Abstract

512,736. Linear-dimension gauges. STANDARD GAGE CO., Inc. June 3, 1938, No. 16721. Convention date, April 5. [Class 106 (ii)] Comprises an internal gauge of the dial type with a head containing means for operating the dial indicator, an aligning pin adjustable in the periphery of the head, a diametrically opposed measuring plunger and a pair of locating studs slidable radially in the head and located one on each side of the plunger, and in the same plane therewith, characterised in that extension are provided for the aligning pin, measuring plunger and locating studs to increase the range of the gauge. The plunger 18 extends from a standard form of dial indicator into the housing 16 whch is secured to a Y-shaped head 20 provided with a central recess to receive the housing 16 to which it is secured by screws. The head has radial and aligned bores 24, 25 and two other radial bores 48. In the bore 25 slides the measuring contact plunger 32, the inner end of which contacts with one end 31 of a bell crank 29 the other end 30 of which contacts with the rod 18 of the indicator mechanism. The outer end of the plunger 32 is threaded to receive a rounded tip 62 or an extension 61. A lock screw 36 prevents rotation of while permitting limiting sliding of the plunger. In the bore 24 is slidably mounted a plug 37 formed with a head 38 extending into the recess 23 which head houses a spring 41 between the plug and an adjustable screw 40. Into the outer portion of the threaded bore is screwed a measuring pin 44 locked by a nut 45. Locating studs 47 are provided in the bores 48, being withdrawn into the bores by springs 52 attached to the studs at 53. Normally they are pressed outwardly by the stronger spring 41 acting through the head 38 which engages the inner ends of the studs. Extensions 57 may replace the tips 62 and extensions 61, 64 may be used on the measuring anvils when large bores are to be gauged. U.S.A. Specification 2,095,405 is referred to.
