Abstract
511,832. Golf-practising appliances. CHAPMAN. H. V. Jan. 21, 1939, No. 2142. [Class 132 (ii)] A golf-practising appliance comprises a mat having a raised rib or wall for guiding the club head, the wall being capable of angular adjustment according to the direction which it is desired that the club head shall take. The wall 11 is removably secured to the mat by a bolt 13 which also passes through a twoarmed tee 14. The tee may be turned into the position shown in Fig. 4 so as to support the ball 18. Instead of employing the tee 14, a combined tee and ball 12, Fig. 1, tethered to an elastic cord 20 may be used. The elastic cord passes beneath the mat and is secured to an abutment 24. After a stroke. the ball :2 is returned substantially to the position shown, by the elasticity of the cord. A hole 16<1> is provided at the other side of the mat to permit the wall to be transferred thereto for use by a left-handed player. To prevent "stopping" when striking the ball, a device may be secured to the wall having two horizontal prongs projecting over the ball.
