[CLass 78 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] In order that a workpiece may be turned during conveyance about an axis substantially perpendicular to the direction of conveyance, the parallel conveying bands or rollers are driven at different speeds. The workpiece d Fig. 1, is conveyed by parallel bands a, b and c and is engaged by a pin upon the central band. If the band a is ' driven at the lowest speed, the band c at the highest speed, and the band b at the mean speed, the workpiece will be rotated in the direction of the arrows and will take up successively the positions shown by broken lines. The central band may be dispensed with, and endless bands pressed into contact with the workpieces may be provided above them in order to assist conveyance. When live-roller tracks are used, two rows of rollers may be provided below the workpieces, or two rows of rollers above and below the workpieces. One of these rows of rollers may be dispensed with. A machine for rolling out thick discs of small diameter repeatedly in different directions to obtain thinner discs of considerably larger diameter is shown in Figs. 9, 10 and 11. Between the roll housings A, B, Fig. 9, are mounted two upper and two lower rows of positively driven rollers 4, 5, Fig. 11. These rollers are journalled in frames 1, 1<1>, 2, 2' supported by cross-members 8, 12 along which they can be moved by screw-and-nut mechanism 18 in order to vary the distance x. The members . 8 can be raised and lowered by screw-threaded spindles 9 in order to vary the distance y. The rollers 4 are driven by a motor 19 at the same speed as the rolls through chain-and-sprocket gearing, but the rollers 5 are driven at a greater or less speed through similar mechanism and a regulating gear 20. The entrance and exit rollers 4<1> at each side are driven at the same speed as the rolls. The movement of the discs is restrained by bars 28.
