Abstract

511,599. Purifying air. CALMIC, Ltd., and PEEK, W. C. Dec. 20, 1937, No. 35160. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Groups IV and VI] The vapours obtained by heating a composition containing a glycol or ether, ester or anhydride thereof and an organic compound having the group-SO2-attached to an alkyl or aryl radicle are used to clarify the atmosphere in closed spaces such as rooms, halls &c. The composition, which may be in liquid form or as a solution or emulsion in water or other solvent is vaporised by dropping on to a hot plate, by passing air through the heated composition, or by spraying. In examples: (1) a mixture of monoethylether of ethyleneglycol, monoacetate of ethyleneglycol and sodium ricinoleosulphate is diluted with water and vaporised. (2) a mixture of monoethylether of ethyleneglycol, monoacetate of ethyleneglycol, formaldehyde, sulphonated castor oil, sulphurous acid, perfume and water is diluted and vaporised. Instead of sulphurous acid formaldehyde may be used as a disinfectant. The following compositions are mentioned : (a) methylbenzenesulphonate and ethyleneglycol methyl or ethylether (b) sodium ricinoleosulphate and propyleneglycohnethyl or ethylether, (c) benzylsulphoxide, ethyleneglycolmonoacetate and propyleneglycol, (d) ethyleneoxide and methylbenzenesulphonate. Essential oils may be added as perfumes.
