[Class 29] Compression machines and systems.-The vaporized refrigerant, e.g., dichloromethane, is compressed in a liquid-ring pump disposed, together with its electric driving motor, in a sealed casing. The pump comprises a rotor 7 having radial compression chambers 13 which communicate intermittently through ducts 14 with vapour inlet and discharge passages 15, 16 respectively in the motor bearing, the rotor being eccentrically mounted in a housing 8 free to rotate on shaft 9. The casing -is filled with liquid, e.g., oil, up to the level h<1> and, during operation of the pump, the open outer ends of the chambers 13 are sealed by the ring of oil which forms on the inside of the housing. Vapour passing into the casing through the pipe 18 connected to the evaporator 23 is drawn into the chambers as the ducts 14 pass over the passage 15 and, after compression, is discharged past the non-return valve 17 in the passage 16 into the pipe 20 connected to the condenser 21. In a modification, the pipe 18 is connected to the passage 15 and the passage 16 discharges into the casing which communicates with the condenser.
