511,265. Locking nuts. MARCHOU, E. R. Jan. 6, 1939, No. 501. Convention date, Jan. 10, 1938. [Class 89 (i)] A self-locking nut comprises a skirt part 2 connected by a web 3 to an inner tapped barrel 1 which is shorter than the skirt, radial slits 8 being provided in the parts 1, 2, 3 in planes containing the axis of the nut to impart resiliency to the barrel 1. One or more of the slits may extend the full length of the barrel 1. A washer 9 may be used in conjunction with the nut and has a bent up part 10 fitting between the parts 1, 2 and of conical shape on its inner face to engage a similarly-shaped face on the barrel so as to cause contraction of the barrel as the nut is tightened. The adjacent surfaces of the washer 9 and barrel 1 may be fluted so that they rotate together.
